Circular Apparel Design

Circular Design: a model of production and consumption, which involves sharing, leasing, reusing, repairing, refurbishing and recycling existing materials and products as long as possible. Circular economies aim to tackle global challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, waste, and pollution by emphasizing the design-based implementation of the three base principles of the model. The three principles required for the transformation to a circular economy are: eliminating waste and pollution, circulating products and materials, and the regeneration of nature.

MY SOLUTION

A new streetwear brand focusing on repurposing and upgrading durable second hand
clothing options (workwear) such as denim, work jackets and military uniform pieces with new colors, graphics and branding.
BRANDING STORY

Early on in my research and in the process of learning the origins of workwear I decided a part of my project and brand in general would pay homage to the working class that these garments were originally made for. Today workwear and durable clothing is
consumed by a streetwear and general style influence but my first memory of workwear is really much different than that. My father was an iron worker and when I see brands like Dickies and Carhartt I think of the worn in clothing he would come home in and all of the hard work and manual labor he dedicated himself to for many years. To repurpose and style these types of clothes is definitely sustainable but I feel it is also necessary to pay respect to the working class that truly rely on durable clothing and uniforms to do their
jobs every day.
